Our Mission

The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group is a support
network that informs and educates parents, self-advocates, family
members, professionals, and friends of individuals with Down
syndrome. We are committed to raising awareness of Down syndrome
and promoting an inclusive culture where all people with Down
syndrome are valued participants in the social, recreational,
educational and economic opportunities in the communities we serve.
Welcome

The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group meets the second
Thursday of each month at First Christian Church in Columbus, Indiana.
Please join the us for an evening of fellowship while we all continue to
learn more about improving the lives of everyone impacted by Down
syndrome. Meeting times are 7:00 p.m. Use the Lafayette Street
Entrance.

The Columbus Area Down Syndrome Support Group encourages
anyone impacted by Down syndrome to join the group or simply come
to any meeting of interest. This invitation is extended to parents,
grandparents and siblings of children with Down syndrome.
Professionals who work with people with Down syndrome are also
encouraged to get involved with the group. This includes teachers,
therapists, doctors and clergy.
During 2009 and 2010 a series of films will be shown throughout the
community with the goal and purpose being to:

  • Provide entertainment and information while exploring issues
faced by individuals with disabilities as shown in commercial and
    documentary movies;

  • Educate viewers, offer different perspectives, challenge
stereotypes, and celebrate the contributions of people with
    disabilities to popular culture; and

  • Raise awareness about disabilities as it is represented in film.

  • Please join us as sponsors, volunteers, hosts and (most
    importantly as) patrons
